Politicians visited the low-cost DIY store that builds sustainable community here in Newtownards!

Local politicians, including the Mayor of Ards & North Down, and Habitat staff standing in front of Habitat ReStore Newtownards

On Friday 27th January, Mayor Karen Douglas visited Habitat ReStore on the Portaferry Road, to learn more about the social enterprise’s impact for local people in Ards & North Down.

By selling donated new and used building supplies and home improvement materials ReStore enables local people to improve their homes at low cost. ReStore provides skills and employability training for people of all ages and backgrounds and diverts 1000 tons of reusable waste from landfill every year.

Jenny Williams, Chief Executive of Habitat Ireland, said: “We’re so thankful that Mayor Douglas, as well as many other local representatives could join us to learn more about ReStore here in Newtownards.”

“Support from companies, organisations and individuals is critical to the success of ReStore – and the impact for local people and wider community is significant.”
