Ann has been volunteering in ReStore for more than 4 years. After she retired, Ann wanted to give back to her local community. Read about her ReStore experience below.

Why did you sign up to volunteer in ReStore and how long have you been a volunteer?

I was newly retired and was looking for somewhere to volunteer, I discovered the shop and I’ve been here ever since.

What motivates you to keep coming back?

It’s a useful and worthwhile charity. I also enjoy working in the shop and meeting new people both staff and customers alike.

What have you learned during your time in ReStore?

I’ve learnt how to be helpful and to never underestimate people and their ability.

What has surprised you about working in ReStore?

The quality of items and furniture people throw out and how people can easily re use them.

What has challenged you at ReStore?

Realising how difficult It is for people to just live and how fortunate I am to have grown up in good circumstances whilst others circumstances weren’t as good.

Who’s the most interesting person you’ve met in ReStore and why?

Alan, a fellow volunteer, he always has an interesting slant on things and always gives a perspective I never think of. He also knows lots of facts and figures.

What’s the thing that inspires you most about Habitat’s work?

The fact that even though I am just working in a shop I am still helping, whether that is with customers that I do see or out on a building project that I don’t get to see.
