Have you noticed the 'Global Information Hubs' in your local ReStore? Learn what they are and why they were created below.

Last year, Habitat Ireland were delighted to receive funding from Irish Aid to pilot the ‘Community Connections’ programme. This programme enabled the roll-out of Global Citizenship Education workshops in every ReStore in Northern Ireland, as well as with the Habitat staff team.

As part of the programme, each ReStore created a ‘global information hub’. The aim of these hubs was to help customers, donors and volunteers to connect the local and global dots, deepening their understanding of Habitat’s mission and the organisation’s work in Ireland and around the world.

Thank you to all the volunteers and staff who have taken part in the programme, contributed to the creation of the hubs and completed the application process for the first ever, ‘Global Information Hub’ awards, which were presented at Habitat's 'Community Connections' event in June.

Check out a photo of all the hubs below (left-right: Ballymena, Belfast, Newry, Newtownards, Lisburn) & read about the two winning hubs.

Design and Information:

The first award was presented to the hub which used the most innovative methods in promoting its messaging through its design and information.

The winning hub exhibited creative storytelling and lots of engaging, interactive aspects which unpacked the work of Habitat in both a local and global context. The judges felt that this hub told a powerful story, using many unique design elements, like a lamp which highlighted the importance of being a light in the darkness and bringing to life ‘Habi the Habitat Hedgehog’ who educates customers, and their children, about the Sustainable Development Goals.

Congratulations to the team in ReStore Ballymena, winners of the global information hub, best ‘design and information’.

Engagement:

The second award was presented to the hub which garnered the most engagement in-store.

The winning hub recorded a wonderful 174 engagements with customers, through lots of different tools and resources. This hub decided to focus on multiple aspects, locally and globally, which engaged customers through ReStore donations with QR codes, topic-specific flipbooks, whiteboard questions and has even sparked a potential partnership with a local church.

Congratulations to the team who created the hub at ReStore Lisburn, the winners of the most engaged global information hub.
